Applying nanomaterials to fingerprinting in forensic sciences

0

This study covers the use of nanomaterials in latent fingerprinting in development techniques in forensic sciences. Traditional methods suffer from numerous drawbacks such as low contrast, sensitivity, and selectivity, as well as high toxicity.

The use of fluorescent nanomaterials including quantum dots  and rare earth upconversion fluorescent nanomaterials are attractive due to their unique optical and chemical properties. The use of these and other nanomaterials demonstrate:

  • high contrast
  • sensitivity
  • selectivity
  • reduced toxicity.
